Christmas is that time of the year, when we all get together and celebrate this beautiful occasion with lots of decorations, foods & family gatherings. Loads of shoppings and get togethers with family & friends. But Christmas 2020 has been one of the most different Christmas in history.

Christmas 2020 was in the midst of a pandemic. Nothing was the same as usual. Covid-19 had a huge impact on our way of celebrating. Many countries had a lockdown and many others had restrictions. Something we would never expect to happen in the year 2020.

Many people could not get to decorate their home for Christmas. Because of the pandemic & it’s impact on the import and export. Shops were not able to offer the usual supply which they could. This resulted in things being bought early and then the items were finished, resulting many disappointed buyers with no decorations to buy at all. Another reason for not decorating was the lockdown many countries have. During the lockdown all essential shops were open but non-essential shops had to close their doors. They did try to offer online offers, but there items were also sold out very fast. People could not physically go to shops and buy their desired products for decorating.

Sadly many people had to opt for old Christmas decorations they already had from previous years, handmade Christmas decorations or no decorations at all.

Another downfall was that because of the social distancing and restrictions on everyone, many countries had forbidden the public to party. No more that a certain amount of people were allowed to visit you ( mostly 2 to 3 persons). No huge gatherings were allowed and as a result of this we could not invite our relatives and friends to come over. We could not get to celebrate this special day of the year by being together with the ones we love. Instead, through social media, through mobile chat and through webcams people stayed in touch with one another and wished each other a Merry Christmas.

One more reason for not being able to see any loved one was if someone was in quarantine. they could not visit others nor receive any visitors at their home resulting in a lonely Christmas.

In many countries parties were not allowed and we could not go out for dinner to a restaurant or to the cinema. We could not enjoy to watch shops being decorated in the festive decors and awesome decorations. Things were just not the same as usual this Christmas.

Even though 2020 has been a crazy year for us all, one thing is certain…. this year taught us how free we were before the pandemic. How we could enjoy our freedom and how we could be together with other people and walk freely in the public. We have learnt to value time and family.

Hopefully next Christmas 2021, will be a better one in which we will be able to celebrate the way we actually used to celebrate Christmas for years.

Merry Christmas to all!
