Diwali is known as one of the most colorful festivity with lots of diya’s, akash kandils, sweets, prayers and family gatherings. Not only in India, buta all around the world, this festivity of hope and love is celebrated widely. The festivity is a connection between loved ones and families. An occasion where even strangers are allowed to join in, eat together, enjoy and offer prayers. Diwali 2020 however is the most different Diwali in history. All traditions are different & all circumstances are totally different. The entire occasion this year, is not what it used to be….

Diwali 2020 is one of the first Diwali in which there is no gathering. People are forced due to circumstances into keeping distance from one another keeping social distancing in eye. Many places have a partial or total lockdown, because of which loved ones are kept at a distance. No family gatherings, no visits to the temple. You can not see a smiling face, because in most cases all faces are covered with face masks. No fireworks & joy, because there is little we can celebrate during this uncertain period. No joy is to be observed as everyone deep in their heart know, that this is absolutely not the way they want to celebrate Diwali. There is no happiness and no enjoyment.

Where ever strangers were welcome to join in and celebrate, today we have to keep families, friends and loved ones far from coming over, just to avoid huge gatherings. Shops have limited supplies and many houses could not get the items needed for their decorations at home as things were sold out early. Many people lost their income source and can not afford to buy things to celebrate.

Diwali is known as the festival of lights. Diwali symbolizes the spiritual victory of light over darkness, the good over evil and nkowledge over ignorance. But Diwali 2020 is indeed a dark Diwali. One of the most darkerst Diwali in history.

There is fear of uncertainty in every heart, together with a solid trust that hopefully things will get better soon and hopefully by next year, families will be able to celebrate the occasion of Diwali together.

Covid-19 has cost many people to lose their live and many are battling with this disease. On every single news channel all we hear is news about covid. Everyday we hear how many people got infected, how many people are hospitalised and how many have sadly lost their lives due to covid. There is an ongoing fear of people infecting each other and in an attempt to avoid getting infected or infecting others, we are doing things we would never imagine to do. This pandemic has changed the way we celebrate our happiness and occasions.

At this moment where things are so uncertain, one things is absolutely certain… Every heart is hoping and praying that this pandemic ends soon and we get to celebrate Diwali 2021 as we used to celebrate since centuries… Every heart is praying that everyone stays healthy and safe…

Happy Diwali to everyone!
